Professional copywriting evaluate texts not only from the point of uniqueness and semantic load.
Among the evaluation criteria, there are also such concepts as “blur”, the density of the keywords and phrases used, and the nausea of the text. The last two concepts can be combined since they determine almost the same thing – the ratio of repetitions in the text to its total volume.
Let’s start with such a thing as text nausea. Imagine an article where the same words are repeated in every sentence. Would you be comfortable reading it? Unlikely. Rather, by the end of the first paragraph, the reader will lose all desire to continue reading. This effect is called “nausea.”
What determines the nausea of the text?
Nausea or uniformity of the expressions used is a direct consequence of the author’s poor vocabulary. Even at school, we are taught to at least alternate nouns and personal pronouns in sentences that follow each other in the text.
But often copywriters neglect even this simple rule. And in the end, we get a text in which there is not enough lightness, the very “readability” that is so appreciated by users.
The nausea of the text leads to the fact that the reading process becomes like moving along a broken road surface: bump … a little bit of asphalt … another bump. Such rhythm tires and causes the reader discomfort. And the abundance of repeating words makes even the most useful material meaningless.
Text Nausea: How to Recognize
Nevertheless, the nausea of the text is far from always perceived with a minus sign. Thus, the presence of a sufficient number of thematic features in the material allows search engines to more quickly recognize its belonging to a particular category. As a result, the site will be much easier to find by thematic queries in the search results – it will naturally fall into the search ranking.
In general, the calculation of frequently repeated words in texts is carried out according to two schemes, which are conditionally referred to as:
- Academic (calculating the total percentage of repetitions in the text)
- Classical (with a more complex calculation scheme based on the formula: the square root, calculated from the number of repetitions of the most common word.
The standard threshold for nausea in the text should not exceed 8%. Good values are considered indicators in 4 – 6%. You can determine these values for a specific material using special services (isito.com, miratools.ru).

The most frequent repetitions of words in the text must fall on the “keywords”. Otherwise, not only the semantic but also the practical significance of such materials will be lost.
It is worth considering that the nausea of the text is often confused with the density of the location of the keywords. Expressed “density” about the volume of keywords to the volume of the material itself. That is, at a rate of 2 to 5% density, 10% will be excessive. However, everything, again, depends on the size of the text.
Speaking, a density of 2% is 20 characters per 1000 characters of text. That is, it is allowed to enter keywords twice for 10 characters or use short keywords for four times (no more than 5 characters in length).
But in any case, when approaching the creation of text materials with mathematical precision, one should not forget about the main quality criteria – readability, literacy, meaningfulness, style, gears tv of presentation of information.
It is they who in most cases determine the true value of the text. And the assessment of nausea, in this case, will only make sure of its quality.
